Gulistan-e-Jauhar or Gulistan-e-Johar (Urdu: گلستانِ جوهر) is one of the major neighbourhoods of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. Some blocks of the neighborhood fall into Faisal Cantonment Board's administration. This neighborhood is named after Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar.
There are several ethnic groups in Gulistan-e-Jauhar including Muhajirs, Sindhis, Baloch, Kashmiris, Seraikis, Pakhtuns, Memons, Bohras, Ismailis, etc. Over 90% of the population is Muslim, the rest are 3% Hindus, 5% Christians, 1% Parsi and 1% Atheists. The population of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town is estimated to be nearly one million.
Commercial and residential zones
There are several big projects along with markets and shops like Lakhani Pride,Sunny View,Johar Square,Iqra Complex, Noman Gardens, Alshams Complex, Hina Garden, Lakhani Heights, Harmain Tower, Haroon Royal City,Noman Grand City, Ahmed Residency, Madina Comforts, Gray Gardens, Asaish Apartments, Noman Heaven, Sana Avenue, Safari Bolevard,Afnan Arcade, gulshan-e-amin,Allience Arcade,Uniqe Sumaira Avenue, Rufi Lake Drive, Datari Castle, Decent Tower, Abdullah Heights, Decent Gardens, Samama Shopping Centre, Kehkashan Terrace, Bisma garden, unique classic, Eastern Pride etc. The biggest housing Societies in Gulistan-e-Jouhar are Sindh Baloch Co-operative Housing Society (SBCHS),PHA (Pakistan Housing Authority), two schools, park, Libraries, Madarsahs, One Hospital (Darul Sehat Hospital) and clinic, shopping centre and markets.
There are three small parks for children and two of them have water filters, one is located behind Usman Garden and the other is behind Eastern Pride. For needy people, two meals a day are provided for free by Saylani Welfare and Chippa.
There are numerous Mosques in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and 4 Imam Barghas. Gulistan-e-Jauhar is divided in twenty-two blocks, and usually every block has at least one mosque. Additionally, many apartment committees also facilitate a mosque on site. Ashraf-ul-Madaris, one of the largest religious educational institutions has a full facility campus in Gulistan-e-Jouhar Block-12 located in Sindh Baloch Co-operative Housing Society (SBCHS).
A post office is located in Block-14 (Postal Code 75290), whereas, the PTCL Gulistan-e-Jauhar exchange is located in Block-12 (behind Rado shopping area).also computer shops in Block-12 [[PcMart]],] & Block-17 Dynamic Computer. Most of the banks operating in Pakistan have their branches located in Gulistan-e-Jauhar including Standard Chartered Bank, Habib Metropolitan Bank, CitiBank, MCB Bank, Meezan Bank, Soneri Bank, Faysal Bank Ltd. NIB Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland - RBS, Bank AlHabib Ltd., Bank Alfalah, Bank Islami Ltd., etc.
The most famous hospital in the vicinity is Dar-ul-Sehat Hospital located in Block-15 and Batool General Hospital located in Block-5, whereas, there are various other hospitals and laboratories like more than three branches near round about of Agha Khan Hospital laboratories, Eesa laboratory, Liaquat National laboratory, Shifa medical and welfare clinic, Sind Specialist clinic . Agha Khan Hospital laboratory and Essa laboratory are located in Block-7 near Mosmiaat chowrangi.Tabba Heart Institite, State of the art Cardiac hospital, also operates its laboratoty collection unit in the area in Block 17 near Johar round about.
Gulistan-e-Jauhar has adequate communication links with the rest of the city. Many buses and chingchi rakshaws and C.N.G. rakshaws run at regular intervals to Malir, Quaidabad, Shah faisal, Saddar, Tower,Clifton,Civic Center & other parts of the city.
Gulistan-e-Jauhar is also connected via the now defunct Karachi Circular Train. Although the train is out of service, the physical infrastructure remains and can be used for any similar future project.
The area around Jauhar Chowrangi roundabout is considered to have traffic issues as most of the neighborhood's banks, markets, restaurants, bakeries and hardware shops are located around it.
