Georgia Gwinnett College, also referred to as GGC or simply Georgia Gwinnett, is a fully accredited four-year public college located in Lawrenceville, Georgia (Gwinnett County), with an enrollment of approximately 3000 undergraduate students.[2]

In the spring of 2005, the Georgia General Assembly and the University System Board of Regents approved a plan to create Georgia Gwinnett College, in Lawrenceville, Georgia, which would be the first new state college created in Georgia since 1970. The plan called for Georgia Gwinnett College to be located on the former Gwinnett University Center campus, which until 2005 served as a special multi-school satellite campus within the University System of Georgia, offering classes to students from several state colleges and universities in the region.

The GGC website emphasizes Georgia Gwinnett College's practical, technological, and flexible educational programs:

Georgia Gwinnett College provides access to targeted baccalaureate level degrees that meet the economic development needs of the growing and diverse population of the northeast Atlanta metropolitan region. It emphasizes the innovative use of technology and active-learning environments to provide its students enhanced learning experiences, practical opportunities to apply knowledge, increased scheduling flexibility, and a variety of course delivery options.

As part of the founding of Georgia Gwinnett College as a new 4-year college in the University of Georgia system, the previous Gwinnett University Center was phased out, with students from Georgia Perimeter and upper-division students from UGA, SPSU, and MCG graduating or transferring to other institutions. GGC degree programs currently focus on four general areas that are important to meeting the needs of the region and the state: information technology, business, biology and psychology. New majors, such as English, History, Criminal Justice, Education, and Exercise Science will be offered in the near future.

In general, faculty at Georgia Gwinnett College are not eligible for tenure, but are instead hired through renewable contracts with periods between 1–5 years.

On March 6, 2008, The students themselves selected the grizzly bear as their official mascot. [3]

On June 25, 2009, GGC received accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Commission on Colleges.
