HackShield is a set of anti-cheating root toolkits developed for MMOs. It is being used in games such as Ragnarok Online, Combat Arms, Dragonica, MapleStory, Mabinogi, War Rock, Kal Online, Shot Online and Ace Online. Hackshield is developed by AhnLab Inc, a Korean security solutions company. It has been available to Korean game developers since 2001 and American game developers since 2005.
HackShield is used a as security solution for online games. This can help game companies stop players from using hacks that can break game play. It also helps to identify players that have technical problems with the game or violate the companies' service or game rules, by sending unique system information to the game operator.
AhnLab HackShield For Online Game has security features like Executable File Encryption, a memory heuristic engine (which searches the memory for variants of unknown hacking tools), a signature engine and a core security module. HackShield installs its hidden device driver when the game utilizing HackShield is started. On later operating systems such as Windows 7, it blocks the use of compatibility mode and other features as part of anti-cheat detection.
