Yaya Han is an American cosplayer, model and costume designer based in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.[1][2] She discovered the unique creative pastime of cosplay at Anime Expo in 1999 as a young fan. However, she has always been artistic with pen and ink illustration, which gave her an upper hand in the creativeness of costume making. Han is self-taught because of the lack of money and resources that were needed to enroll in instructional classes for fashion and costume design. "At the beginning, she could only afford a used $40 sewing machine and a sewing book from a thrift store. To this day, she has made close to 300 costumes in the genres of anime/manga, comic books, video games, sci-fi and her own original designs." Over the years, She has built a successful business in the cosplay community, creating a popular cosplay accessories line that is available online and at conventions, as well as her line of Yaya Han Brand merchandising.[3] She is a regular judge at cosplay competitions.[4] Han was featured on the Syfy channel's Heroes of Cosplay,[5][6] featured in a documentary about cosplay called "Cosplay - Crafting a Secret Identity",[7] and appeared as a guest judge on the TBS reality show King of the Nerds.[8]
