Handheld electronics is a common name for light mobile devices. Handheld electronics includes personal digital assistants (PDAs), such as Palm Pilots or cellular telephones with connectivity to a network such as the internet. Due to limited size of this machines developers of this system and applications face many challenges. For example, a PDA is typically about 5 inches (130 mm) in height and 3 inches (76 mm) in width and it weight less than 0.5 pounds (230 g).

Due to this limited size, most handheld devices have a small amount of memory, include slow processors, and feature small displays (generally touchscreens, in order to save the space and weight of the keyboard) and weight not more than 2 pounds (0.91 kg).
