[edit] Plot
The film stars Saskia Burmeister, as Erica "Yuk" Yurken, an adolescent brunette who fantasises about a better life and stardom; and Delta Goodrem as her school rival Alison Ashley.
At school, Erica is not very popular. She sits alone in class, but when Alison arrives, it all changes. Erica at first is desperate to be Alison's friend but soon changes her mind, and they then become rivals.
They continuously have arguments throughout the year, especially when Erica kisses Barry, Alison's love interest, but, eventually, the two become friends at camp when Erica discovers that Alison doesn't live the perfect life she imagined.
[edit] Box office
The movie performed very poorly at the box office. It could be blamed in the raising of the characters ages from the novel (to suit Goodrem's real-life age). Burmeister got good reviews for her performance[1][2][3] as well as an AFI nomination for best actress,[4] while Goodrem generally received negative reviews for her performance.[5][6][7][8]
Hating Alison Ashley grossed $2,085,751 at the box office in Australia.[9]
[edit] Cast
- Saskia Burmeister as "Erk" Erica "Yuk" Yurken. Throughout the film, Erica is seen as a jealous, attention-seeking and rude. Though at times Erica's energy is put to good use like whilst writing the school play.
- Delta Goodrem as Alison Ashley, who is beautiful and smart. Alison may be both, but one of her weakness is the fact that she is neglected by her own over-worked and controlling mother.
- Jean Kittson as Ms. Nigella Belmont, who is strict and slightly slutty. She runs her class by fearing the students and constantly tearing them down as a way of proving them weak.

- Richard Carter as Lennie Grubb, who is self-absorbed but loving. He often laughs at his own jokes (often un-funny ones), and tries to suck up to Erica to win her approval.
- Craig McLachlan as Jeff Kennard, who is goofy and ridiculous, and always posing as manly (not fooling any one) as a way of impressing Ms. Belmont. He constantly gets bullied by Barry Hollis, a troubled student.
- Rachael Carpani as Valjoy Yurken, who fiesty and skanky, She often targets Erica as a self-esteem boost and wears very revealing clothing. Always clubbing and going out, she never invites her sister or even speaks to anyone unless its in a threatful way.
