Hebei Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering was founded in August 1950, initially named Zhang Jiakou Technical School and it choose a name as the Chahar Industrial Institute in 1951 and in December 1952 changed to the North China Industrial Institute under the leadership of the North China Administrative Committee. In May 1954, it became Zhang Jiakou Architecture and Engineeriing School attached to the Central People's Government Coonstruction Engineering Department. In June 1958, it was incorporated into Hebei province and changed the name successively as Zhang Jiakou Engineering Institute, Zhang Jiakou Engineering Training School, and Zhang Jiakou Architecture and Engineering School. It was approved by the State Council to upgrade to be an institution of higher learing in 1978 as Hebei Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering. It is the unique higher institute, which cultivates architecture and engineering senior technicians in Hebei province.
Since the first decade of the new century, it‘s name will be changed to Hebei University of Architecture.
