Heinlad (the Japanese pronunciation of 'Heinrad') usually acts dazed and vague, often talking with a lazy and nonchalant style. He has a clock in his stomach, which gives him the ability to manipulate time. His super secret skill is being able to stop or stretch time for a limited duration, but there's a flaw in this ability: he still can't control it at will. Heinlad's past and combat abilities are surrounded in mystery. This is also proved on his tech spec statistics as the only thing stated is that he has a rank of 7 - everything else is unknown.[1]

His beast mode is also unique, being based upon the tanuki or raccoon dog animal. The most notable feature of said animal was amazingly large testes which, according to Japanese legend, the tanuki used as both seat and as drums. This trait is reflected on the toy as two round objects right underneath his clock belly that become hip pads in robot mode, one of which contains his spark crystal.[2]

He (or rather, his toy) makes a cameo in the first episode of Transformers: Robots in Disguise as Koji/Yuuki's alarm clock. His voice actor is Yōji Ietomi.

[edit] Reception

Wired Magazine once nominated him as one 12 most ridiculous Transformers of all time.[3]

[edit] Animated series

Heinlad first appears in episode #1, called "Move out, Big Convoy!"

Heinlad is among the crew in episode #2 "Chase the Mysterious Capsule" when they arrive at the planet Godbless and obtain their first Angolmois capsule after a confrontation with the Predacons led by Magmatron.

Heinlad appears in the episode #11, "Planet of Time" where the Maximals investigate the planet Cronos, which hah been placed off limited by the Maximal command. After a battle with the Predacons the Maximals discover Longrack has been turned into a child recovering the capsule. Later on the planet Break is turned into an old man. In the battle Heinlad is able to stop time and make the Predacons shoot themselves, winning the battle for the Maximals. Back on the ship the Longrack and Break are returned to their normal selves.

Big Convoy appears in episode #35, called "Graduation!!" Luring Unicron into battle, the Maximals, are aided, surprisingly, by the escaped Lio Convoy, Magmatron and his Predacons. They manage to delay Unicron long enough for Convoy to use the power of the Matrix to charge his weapon into the Matrix Buster. The cannon blasts Unicron, seemingly destroying him for good. Big Convoy's Maximals fight the three Blendtrons. Heinlad stops time just as the three are about to fire on the Maximals, moves them, and then restarts time so they shoot each other. The Blendtrons then retreat. With the threat of Unicron eliminated, Big Convoy is joined with Magmatron to usher in a new era of peace of Cybertron.

[edit] IDW Publishing

Heinlad also made an appearance in IDW Publishing's Beast Wars: The Gathering miniseries in flashback, shown to sit on the Bi-Partate Committee for State Affairs alongside Big Convoy and Magmatron.

Heinlad had a biography printed in the Beast Wars Sourcebook by IDW Publishing.[4]

[edit] Toys

  • Beast Wars Neo Heinlad (1999)
8 inches in height; the most notable feature is the fully working analog alarm clock in its belly. Because of this, he is considered one of the more collectable Transformers toys made. He comes complete with a wine jug and vintner's journal that combine into a missile launcher, his weapon when in robot mode. Heinlad's toy is 20 cm tall, but in the show he stands 2.6 meters tall, making the toy 1:13 scale.
Hainlad was voted the strangest Transformers Beast Wars figure by Topless Robots.[5]
