Redirect?[edit]

Help:Logging in#What if I forget the password? is a more correct description of Special:PasswordReset and the limits of its usefulness. My preference would be for Help:Reset password to redirect there; failing that, the description here should be corrected. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:44, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

I'd prefer having a separate page for this. Though there is that specific section, that page is fairly long. It includes things that you do well after logging in, such as setting preferences and changing user or user talk pages. When someone is already confused, it's ideal to point them to a concise page about their issue. However, I will add a {{main}} pointing to here. Superm401 - Talk 18:34, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Tweaked password section[edit]

I tweaked it to make clear you can enter your email for this too. Also, I noted that you should enter only your email if you're not sure of the username (if you enter both it will only use the username). Superm401 - Talk 18:39, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

What if you've no longer got access to the e-mail address?[edit]

I have a work-related account with a work-related e-mail address. However, I've forgotten my password and I no longer work for the company, so no e-mail access. Is there any way of getting round this? I could e-mail an admin with the e-mail address, if that helps.--ML5 (talk) 16:49, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Password recovery[edit]

Is there anything that can be done about recovering a user password? if I forgot to put in an email address? i.e. I can provide registration time, the IP and what I think I put in as password, or if you keep info on user agent, I can give all of that. I only had less than ten edits with that user, still i'd rather not create a new one.--79.182.109.84 (talk) 15:45, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

No, I'm sorry. The suggestions at Help:Logging in#What if I forget the password? are all that's available. -- John of Reading (talk) 16:18, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

I have the same problem - years ago when I created my account I used an email address which now is no longer functional, and now I just went to log in and for some reason it's not accepting the password I had recorded as my correct password. If there's no way to recover the password, then am I to create a new account? I understood we are not supposed to have multiple accounts, and I do not want to violate Wikipedia rules so please advise as to what I should do. Thank you. 70.57.9.58 (talk) 23:10, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Yes, you will have to create a new account - there's some advice on this at Help:Logging in#What if I forget the password?. The rules against using multiple accounts only apply when the accounts are being used disruptively; there's no problem creating a new account if you've lost access to the old one. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:07, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
