Heritage Institute of Technology, popularly known as HITK, is a private engineering & management college, located in Anandapur, Kolkata near the East Kolkata Township, in West Bengal, India. It is affiliated to West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata (Wbut).

History

HITK was set up in the eastern fringes of Kolkata in 2001 by a group of Kolkata based eminent industrialists in the flourishing IT, electronics & related industries and renowned public figures. The foundation behind HIT is the Kalyan Bharti Trust. The mission of this trust is to promote education, to nourish the students with rich cultural heritage of India. To meet the growing demand of technical manpower and in view of fiscal constraints at the government level, the Kalyan Bharti Trust decided to supplement the State government’s efforts in setting up new engineering colleges by establishing the Heritage Institute of Technology in September 2000.

At present, it offers Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) courses at the undergraduate level. Admission to the undergraduate B.Tech. courses is done through the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (popularly known as WBJEE) and All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE). At graduate level Master of Technology (M. Tech.) and Master of Computer Applications (MCA) degrees are offered by the institute. The Management Education Centre (Dean: Dr. Bani Sinha) also provides Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree as a full-time two-year multi-speciality course.

Campus

The HITK campus is located at Anandapur near the eastern outskirts of Kolkata. It is a 10 minute drive away from East Metropolitan Bypass (near Ruby Hospital-2 km away). The nearest airport is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport at Dum Dum, Kolkata.

Departments in Faculty of Technology and Management

The institute offers various undergraduate and graduate courses in engineering, technology & management - B. Tech., M. Tech., MBA, etc. All courses are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education AICTE, Government of India and the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal. Since its inception, it has been affiliated to the West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata (WBUT). The institute also enjoys accreditation status by National Board of Accreditation (NBA). According to the goals of the institute to establish itself as a Center of Excellence in Education and Research, there are plans to start PhD. courses in engineering & technology disciplines in the near future.

The institute is currently offering eight undergraduate B. Tech. courses in the following engineering disciplines:

There is a plan to introduce undergraduate B. Tech. course in Electrical Engineering in future.

The graduate school at the institute currently offers M. Tech. Degree in the following disciplines:

• Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering

Apart from these the Faculty of Technology is also offering BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications) and MCA (Master of Computer Applications) degree courses.

The Management Education Center offers BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration) degree course at the undergraduate level and MBA Master of Business Administration degree as a full-time two-year multi-speciality course at the graduate level.

Training & Placements

Academic curricula and syllabi are supplemented keeping in view the requirements of industry by regular interactive workshops, seminars and short-term courses with active participation of academia and industry. Vicinity with development centers of companies like Infosys, Wipro and TCS helps students to get a first hand feel of the industry environment during their course of studies. For instance, the Campus Connect Programme is a unique academia-industry initiative to design the "education experience" launched by Infosys at HITK.

The Placement Track Record of Heritage Institute of Technology has always been outstanding, with a near 100% placement year after year. The Training & Placement Cell at HITK continuously co-ordinates with various industries and organizations for placement of its students.It actively obtains feedback from organizations and conveys it to respective departments, which, in turn, train students accordingly. Major recruiters include Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Accenture, Capgemini, Tech Mahindra, Cognizant, etc.

Student Exchange

The Institute signed an MOU with New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), NJ, USA for a student exchange programme under which the first batch of 20 students had a 6-week training programme at NJIT during 2008. The third batch of students is also undergoing training programme at present.

Fests

• Eclecia - The annual cultural fest of Heritage Institute of Technology is held every year in March.
• Dakshh - The Annual Technology Fest of Heritage Institute of Technology is a national level Tech-Fest.Started in the year 2007. DAKSHH 2008 saw floating participants of around 2000 with more than 25 colleges participating in the fest.
• Prarambh - The annual fest of Management Education Centre of Heritage Institute of Technology; organised by the MBA students.It is a Student centered Management Fest focused on building skills and knowledge for the upcoming managers in fields of Management. The purpose of this fest is to provide students with the opportunity in organising, planning, directing and controlling an organisation dedicated to the promotion of advancement of the art and science of Management.It takes place every fall around September.

The college fest was started by the first batch of Heritage Institute of Technology B.Tech batch in 2002 along with the active cooperation of faculty members & it was held in CLT Mahal, Dhakuria, Kolkata. In the second year it was held in Najrul Mancha. Many of inter college competitions were held local kolkata rock bands were invited for performances. In the next year i.e Eclecia'04 held at Swabhumi , was a massive hit & its news came in the leading newspapers & radio channels of the city drawing huge number of audience. It was inaugurated by Russi Modi. New events like fashion show was introduced & bands like Euphoria were invited for live performance.
