There are sixteen teachers for fifth grade and sixteen for sixth grade. The sixteen classes are broken down into four "houses"(group of classes that have lunch together) and further broken down into two teams of two classes(pair of classes that will mix and have classes together sometimes). The day is separated into nine periods (40 minutes) consisting of the five core classes: Math(different levels of difficulty), Language Arts, Reading, Science, and Social Studies; Foreign Language(Latin, German, Spanish, and French are offered to be continued at the junior high school), Physical Education (including units such as roller skating, basketball, volleyball, softball, football, lacrosse, electives, etc.) and Related Arts(drama, art, music, (Technology for 5th graders only)) and Lunch/Recess. Three minutes are allowed as "passing periods" for students to get from class to class, while 6 minutes are offered before and after lunch period.
There is also a broadcast every Monday morning created by the Broadcast club. The broadcast also has the weather, birthdays, lunch, and upcoming events for students. Highcrest also offers many other clubs that students enjoy participating in. There is also an orchestra/band/chorus program that rehearses before and during school (sectionals) for the many upcoming concerts including the spring outdoor concert in which the orchestra, band, and chorus perform separately and together on Highcrest's front lawn.
Highcrest also has a field day in which a whole day is dedicated to competitive sports between the school's two teams: blue and yellow and the "mile run" an all-student race. Highcrest Middle school is a new experience for those coming from the four K-4 schools all mixed together in one large school.
School Hours are 8:49 am – 3:40 pm.
