Thrissur (Malayalam: തൃശ്ശുര്‍) is a district situated in the central part of Kerala state, India. Thrissur district was formed on July 1, 1949. The headquarters of the district has the same name, Thrissur City. It is an important cultural centre, and is known as the "cultural capital" of Kerala.[1] It is famous for the Thrissur Pooram festival, the most colourful and spectacular temple festival of Kerala. The festival is held near the Vadakkumnathan temple, in April or May. It has a large number of well-known temples around, including the temple town of Guruvayur.

Temples of Kerala There is a very important temple in Kunnamkulam (Thrissur District). It Sree Karthyayani Tedmple at Kizhoor suburb. It is believed that this temple is one of the 108 Durgaalayyas (Durga temples) established by Lord Parasurama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
