Hizb-e-Abu Omar (Urdu: حزب ابوعمر) is a militant Islamist organization that operates in Bangladesh. It broke away from Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami, a militant organization affiliated with Al-Qaeda. It has links to Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh.[1]
The Bangladeshi government's Rapid Action Battalion arrested ten HAO members in Dhaka, Barisal and Babul Akhter on 6 April 2007. The members confessed to their involvement in the organization and said they used kidnappings to raise money for their attacks.[1]
