The CHF50 is the "Model Id"[1] for a scooter manufactured by Honda and marketed as the Metropolitan in the United States, the Jazz in Canada, the Scoopy in Australia and the Crea Scoopy in Japan. The 2002 to 2005 models can reach a speed of 38–40 mph (61–64 km/h) at 8,000 rpm whereas 2006 to 2009 later models can reach 43 mph (69 km/h) at 8,850rpm. Power is rated at 4–4.9 hp (3.0–3.7 kW).[citation needed] The Metropolitan has typical fuel economy of 80–110 mpg-US (2.9–2.1 L/100 km; 96–132 mpg-imp).[citation needed] Offered in United States from 2002 to 2009, the Metropolitan was reintroduced in 2013 based on the fuel-injected and air-cooled NCH50 instead of the prior CHF50. Design concept[edit]

While the CHF50 is one of several 49 cc scooters offered by Honda since the early 1960s, it is notable for its "classic" Vespa-inspired styling and modern mechanical parts. The CHF50 has a large lockable center compartment, located below the seat, which can hold a helmet with room to spare. Inside the compartment is a handle to lock the center stand. This makes it more difficult to roll away. It also features locking handle bars which can lock the wheel at a 45 degree angle to make it harder to push. The CHF50 shares similar motor and drivetrain components with the Honda NPS50.

The CHF50 debuted in the United States as the Metropolitan for the 2002 model year. Due to its design speed being greater than 30mph, multiple states classify it as a motorcycle or "motor-driven cycle" and subsequently require a motorcycle license, registration plate, and insurance coverage for operation.[3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10]

Metropolitan II[edit]

Until 2006, Honda offered a restricted version of the Metropolitan in the United States, called the Metropolitan II, model code CH50P. It was limited to a maximum speed of 25 mph (40 km/h).[citation needed] This permits classification as a moped in those states allowing use by unlicensed or younger riders.[citation needed]
