Hotnews.ro is a Romanian news site. It was founded in October 1999 by a group of financial journalists under the name revistapresei.ro and contained articles from outside sources put together as a press review. It was rebranded HotNews.ro in 2005. As of December 2008, they claim to have between 80,000 and 90,000 daily visitors.[1]

Located in Bucharest, the company employed more than 50 journalists in 2008. Its advertising sales for 2007 stood between €600,000 and €700,000.[1]

[edit] Accusations of plagiarism

In its early years, Hotnews, being a press review site, was accused of copy-pasting articles from other sources with little regards for Copyright laws.[citation needed] As a result, Romanian web-users tend to view the site as plagiarizing other news outlets and scornfully nicknamed it Hoţnews (Hoţ meaning thief in Romanian), even though Cristian Pantazi, Hotnews' editor-in-chief, claims that 90% of the articles published are now produced in-house.[1]
