In some European countries the Laser Rod known as Jolt was released under the name Hot Rod, although he seems to have no relation to the Generation 1 Hot Rod.

According to an online post by Roberto Orci Hot Rod was considered for the 2007 Transformers movie. ^[1]

Hot Rod is the Japanese name for the Autobot, Hot Shot in the Japanese version of Transformers: Armada. Both characters share similarities in alternate modes, personality and eventual new leader of the Autobots until Optimus returned.
