Hot Action Cop is an American rock band. The group released their self-titled debut album on Lava/Atlantic Records in 2003. Rob Werthner (singer/songwriter/guitarist) formed the band in 2001 with bassist Luis Espaillat, drummer Kory Knipp and Louisville, KY guitarist Tim Flaherty, and added Louisville, KY keyboardist Daniel Feese prior to the 2002-2003 tour. Long Island, NY native Werthner cites musical influences including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Faith No More, New York hardcore, Southern Hip-Hop, Punk, Metal, Reggae, and songwriters like Billy Joel.

The band's name came from the nickname that Werther and his friends gave his ex-girlfriend's new partner in the '90s. He was an NYPD officer with a 1970's style parted, feathered hairstyle. When they saw him they'd say, "here comes the hot action cop."

The band achieved some success with the single "Fever for the Flava" despite claiming no radio support from one "global media and entertainment company" that refused to support the band nationwide based on the content of the song. At that time, the company owned half of the radio stations in the United States. The female program director for the company found the lyrics insulting, and sent a memo to all of their stations banning them from radio.

"Fever for the Flava" was featured on movie soundtracks, most notably American Wedding as well as appearing in episodes of the shows King of the Hill, Malcolm in the Middle, Smallville, Boston Legal, and The Man Show. Werthner also wrote the theme song for the Samuel L. Jackson/Colin Farrell movie S.W.A.T. An alternative version of "Fever for the Flava" as well as remixes of both "Fever for the Flava" and "Goin' Down On It" appeared in the EA Sports video game Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2. It was also voted #49 on MuchMusic's (later called Fuse) list of the 50 Most Controversial Videos.
