Husseini (also spelled Hecini, Hosseini, Hussaini, or Husayni, Arabic: حسیني) is an Arabic surname.
[edit] Etymology
It is a nisba derivation of the given name Hussein. People with the surname claim to be descendants of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad through the lineage of Imam Zainal Abidin son of Imam Hussein.
Hasan ibn Ali and Hussein ibn Ali, who were the sons of his daughter Fatima and son-in-law and Caliph Ali ibn Abi Talib. Both Sunnis and Shias claim descent from Muhammad through his grand children.
Husseinis are primarily found in the Arab world, South Asia, Iran and Turkey.
