Hwash or Alhwash (Arabic: الحواش Al-Hwash) is village located in Western Syria close to the Lebanese borders and administratively belonging to the Governorate of Homs. Its located in the midst of a coniferous mountain makes it a popular and favored summer destination. Alhwash is the largest village in Wadi Al-Nasarah (Valley of Christians), region of Homs. It is also very close to the Crac des Chevaliers, or Qal`at al-Ḥiṣn.[1](an important historic site and a popular tourist attraction.)

[edit] Etymology
The name Hwash is derived from Hoshe which is Arabic of 'Corsage' or place of flowers.[2] It has been also suggested that Wash is a word form an old Syriac language which mean 'the good soil'.

It is said that Alhwash is a village that is more than 300 years old. Alhwash and many villages in the area earliest inhabitants had immigrated from Lebanon and Hauran. It has buildings built as early as the late 17th century, and it is also known that the village was part of the Phoenicia territory.[3]

Alhwash's population is changing. In winter the population is 6,000 inhabitants. While in summer the population increase because much of the village's original inhabitants live and work in cities and only spend their summer time in the village and because The number of immigrants is huge. The entire population of Alhwash is Christian, much like most villages in the area.
