[edit] Basic iDog
The iDog reacts to music from an external source, such as an MP3 player. It features seven flashing LED lights on its face and has the ability to 'dance' to the beat of the music. It also has a number of switches on its nose, head and tail which allow it to react to user input. It has various emotions (which change based on user interaction) that provide different color patterns on its LED lights. Made famous for multi-colored lights. The iDog was probably[weasel words] designed to interact with the iPod,[citation needed] though it will work with any 3.5mm audio jack input, and has an integrated speaker. It also reacts if placed near an audio source (such as speakers), and has 70 built-in melodies.
The iDog went on sale worldwide between March and April 2005. The iDog now comes in several colors including white, black, pink, a Target Stores exclusive red, a Toys "R" Us exclusive lime green, a tiger print, and a dalmatian print with either black or multi-colored spots.
Hasbro also sells clothing for the iDog, called the "Chill" series, including feet-warmers, scarves, and ear-warmers.
[edit] iDog variations
As a promotional tie in with Spider-Man 3, Sega manufactured iDogs resembling Spider-Man. Called Spi-Dog, two versions are available: the black symbiote suit and the red and blue normal suit.
Japan also sells iDog Color, where the iDog is available in pale blue with star-shaped lights (Happy) and a pale pink with heart-shaped lights (Lovely).
In 2007, Tiger Electronics released the iDog Amp'd. It was an upgraded version of the iDog with stereo speakers which nodded its head and tapped its foot in time to the music being played on it.
Also in 2007, a basic version of the iDog was manufactured as a promotional tie-in for the Mcdonalds and Burger king corporation,[1] based on a similar, but smaller chassis with reduced functionality and different styling. The toy has a switch on its underside that turns on the toy and subsequent pressing of the nose button causes the lights in the head to flash varying colors. There is no speaker or movement.
The last iDog that came out in 2007 was the iDog Pup, a puppy version of the iDog with poseable ears and a moving head, which does not need to be plugged in to a musical device to function. Instead, it listens through its microphone located on its belly. The iDog Pup comes in four styles: red rock, green dance, yellow hip-hop, and orange pop. The iDog PUP has 12 built in riffs to match his music stile.
.
In 2008, three new versions of the iDog were released. The iDog Clip is a fully-functional mini-sized iDog which can be clipped onto a backpack. The iDog Dance is a full-sized[clarification needed] iDog that stands up and dances in time to the music being played on it. The iDog Soft Speaker is a giant, plush, but fully functional[clarification needed] iDog.
.
in 2009 there was a mini iDog soft speaker called the iDog plush puppy which did not need batteries.
it is a useful little plush speaker (with no moods).
it also had fake LEDs on its face.
also in 2009 there was a new iDog called iDog disiner which was an original iDog with stickers that you can put on it.
also in 2009 6 new colors came out for the iDog soft speaker including orange, purple, purple tatto, and red tatto.
[edit] iDog PUP's moods
When music is not being played, double-click the Nose Button and I-DOG PUP will show you a mood. I-DOG PUP changes his moods based on how much love and attention you give him (or don't give him) and how much music you've played for him. You can tell what kind of mood he's in from listening to the sounds he makes and the LED light patterns he displays. When you're done "feeding" I-DOG PUP (no music is playing), double-click the Nose Button and pay attention to the light patterns I-DOG PUP displays to determine what mood he's in.
If he whines instead of a musical riff this means he has become "SICK" from too little music or attention.
- EXCITED
This means that you're "feeding" I-DOG PUP lots of music and giving him a lot of love and attention. You're pressing his nose so much he's excited. When you double-click his nose, he'll play excited music.note~ this LED light sequence moves quickly
- HAPPY
This means that you're "feeding" I-DOG PUP enough music and giving him the right amount of love and attention. When you double-click his nose, he'll play happy music.
- LONELY
This means that I-DOG PUP really needs to be "fed" more music and shown more love and attention! Be sure to press his nose and play him some more music! When you double-click his nose, he'll play lonely music.
- SAD
This means that you've left I-DOG PUP alone for too long. he needs more music and attention soon, or he may get "sick" when you double-click his nose, he'll play sad music.
[edit] iDog PUP's needs
To kee I-DOG PUP satisfied and healthy, be sure to "feed" (play) him lots of music! If I-DOG PUP is hungry and needs more music from you, his center LED will slowly pulsate yellow-green-yellow-green. The sequence will blink faster as he gets hungrier. When you see this happen, "feed" him some music! If I-DOG PUP is lonely and needs more attention from you, his center LED will slowly pulsate red-orange-red-orange. The sequence will blink faster as he gets more desperate for your attention. When you see this happen, press his Nose Button a few times to show him attention!
[edit] Moods
When music is not being played, double-click the Nose Button and I-DOG will show a mood. IDog changes its moods based on how much love and attention it is given (or not given) and the type of music played for it. What kind of mood it is in can be determined by the sounds it makes, the LED light patterns it displays and the music it plays. When IDog is done being “fed” (no music is playing), double-click the Nose Button and pay attention to the light patterns I-DOG displays to determine what mood it is in.[2]
When iDog is first taken out of the package it hasn't yet have a mood to make it learn its mood feed it music for 5 minutes.
If an iDog has a mood it is marked ![]()
If an iDog doesn't have that mood is it is marked ![]()
However, if Wikipedia doesn't know if an iDog has that mood, is it is marked ?
note: the iFish has different moods than the basic iDog
[edit] Modes
The iDog has modes to tell what he is currently doing:
- hang out mode - iDog is unplugged from a musical device you can give it attention by pressing his nose.
- feeding mode or listening mode - iDog is listening to music through his speaker or microphone.
- silent mode - To quiet I-DOG down, tap its Tail Switch and it will give you 5 minutes of peace and quiet. But beware! I-DOG will get angry when you do this! To wake it up again press its nose.
note~ some iDog's modes are called something different than others.
note~ If you leave I-DOG ON in a dark and quiet room, it will stop moving and its middle LED will blink blue and purple. It will automatically go to sleep after 5 minutes of being left in the dark (as long as it’s quiet). If you play music for I-DOG in the dark, it will happily continue playing LED animations and dance periodically.
[edit] Personalities
Different kinds of music give I-DOG different personalities. I-DOG changes its personality based on the type of music you “feed” it. Its personality is displayed through the color of LED lights that flash and blink on its face. When you first take I-DOG out of the package it will be in puppy mode. This means it has not yet established a personality because it hasn’t heard any of your music yet. After playing it music for approximately 5 minutes its personality will begin to emerge. The type of music you listen to will influence its personality. The following chart shows what types of I-DOG personalities you are likely to see emerge.
| Personality | Outer ring led color |
|---|---|
| Rock/punk | Red |
| Hip-hop/rap | Yellow |
| Dance/techno | Green |
| Country | Orange |
note~ iDog's middle LED starts on its blues personality
| Personality | Middle LED color |
|---|---|
| Pop | Pink |
| Blues | pop & country & blues |
| no personality | white |
note~ when he's sick he can't keep up his personality
note~ he shows white and red LEDs when he has no personalitys
[edit] Needs

|---|---|
| To keep I-DOG satisfied and healthy, be sure to “feed” (play) it lots of music! (At least 5 minutes every hour.)
If I-DOG is hungry and needs more music from you, its middle LED light will blink blue. It will blink faster as it gets hungrier. When you see the middle LED light blinking blue, “feed” it some music! |
If I-DOG needs more love and attention from you, its middle LED light will blink a pinkish/purplish color. The faster it blinks, the more urgently it needs your attention. When you see the middle LED light blinking purple, “pet” or wave your hand over the top of its head or press its Nose Button right away to show you care! |
note~ he needs a lot of music when you first take him out of the pakage
[edit] how to play with iDog
how to feed or give attention to your iDog
- Music - connect iDog to a musical device or place him near a speaker where the volumes at a hier level.
- Attention - pet his head or nose (it will make a scratching sound effect while displaying a spinning LED light pattern).
[edit] how to turn iDog off or on
Turn I-DOG ON by pressing the Nose Button. Its ears will move and it will play a special sound and LED light animation to show you that it’s awake and ready to play!
When you are finished playing with I-DOG, press and hold down the Nose Button for 5 seconds to turn it OFF. I-DOG will play an LED animation and sound to signal that it’s going to sleep.
note~ When you first turn I-DOG on, it will be in puppy mode. This means it has not yet established a personality and/or mood because it hasn’t been “fed” any of your music. You can give I-DOG love and attention, however, it is best to “feed” it music as soon as possible.
[edit] iCat
The iCat is a feline version of the iDog. Similar to the iDog, it reacts to music from an external source, such as an MP3 player. It features seven flashing LED lights on its face and has the ability to 'dance' to the beat of the music. It also has switches on its tail, head (nose), and 6 touch sensors which allow it to react to user input. It has various emotions which change based on user interaction and music played with it that provide different color patterns on its LED lights.
It has four built-in riffs that come in four different music genres (rock, hip-hop, country, and dance).
The iCat is designed to personify different traits. When it is tapped on the nose, the iCat purrs with delight. It acts sick when it has been without music for a while; "feeding" the iCat music makes it feel better.
Hasbro also sells clothing for the iCat, called the "Chill" series, including hats, scarves, and tail-warmers.
The iCat comes in two colors: white and black.
[edit] Needs
The iCat's needs are the same as the iDog; see above.
[edit] iCat's moods
- EXCITED - (and excited music plays)
This means that you're giving I-CAT lots of attention. note~ this light sequence moves quickly
- HAPPY - (and happy music plays)
This means that I-CAT is content. You're giving it a good amount of attention.
- SAD - (and sad music plays)
This means that you've left I-CAT alone for too long. Pet I-CAT on the nose or scratch his Face sensors right away to cheer it up!
- SICK
When you see I-CAT glowing green and yellow and it doesn't play a musical riff, this means I-CAT is "sick." When this happens, be sure to pet its nose or shratch his Face sensors a lot and "feed" it some more music! (I-CAT can get sick from either too little attention or too little music "feeding.")
[edit] "Copy Cat" Game
One way to make I-CAT happy is to play a game with it! "Copy Cat" challenges you to remember beat sequences and play them back to I-CAT, and at the end, I-CAT plays you the song you built together!
1. Scratch sensors under its ears for at least 2 seconds when I-CAT is not listening to music.
2. I-CAT will light up one LED and play a short musical beat.
3. I-CAT displays a ring of green LEDs to show you where the touch sensors are, and waits a few seconds for your response.
4. Press the LED touch sensor that matches the LED I-CAT lit.
5. I-CAT will display another LED/drumbeat. Try to match it.
6. This process continues, and the more beats you get right, the more complex the beats become.
7. If you happen to win the game (by getting 4 rounds of 8-LED sequences correct - quite difficult!), I-CAT becomes instantly well-fed and excited.
8. When you want to stop playing the game, simply stop interacting with I-CAT or press the nose button.
[edit] Musical personalty
I-CAT knows music riffs in 4 genres: Rock, Dance, Hip-Hop, and Country.
Nose Button: Want to set I-CAT to your favorite music style? Learn how to use the nose button.
1 tap on the Nose: I-CAT will play a happy "click" sound. This is a way of giving I-CAT attention.
2 quick taps on the Nose (doubleclick): I-CAT will show you its mood. The music that plays shows you its current musical personality. (Red=Rock, Green=Dance, Yellow=HipHop, Orange=Country.)
3 quick taps on the Nose (tripleclick): This sets the I-CAT personality to "Random." Each time I-CAT shows you its mood/personality, it picks a genre at random.
4 quick taps on the Nose (quadrupleclick): This sets the I-CAT personality to "Rock." (You can remember this command because the word "Rock" has 4 letters.)
5 quick taps on the Nose (quintupleclick): This sets the I-CAT personality to "Dance." (You can remember this command because the word "Dance" has 5 letters.)
6 quick taps on the Nose (sextupleclick): This sets the I-CAT personality to "HipHop." (You can remember this command because the word "HipHop" has 6 letters.)
7 quick taps on the Nose (septupleclick): This sets the I-CAT personality to "Country." (You can remember this command because the word "Country" has 7 letters.)
8 or more taps on the Nose: This sets the I-CAT personality to "Random" (and also drives I-CAT a little crazy to have its nose clicked so many times).
[edit] "Scratch" Mode
When I-CAT is in listening mode, you can "scratch" along to the music. First, touch one of the sensors under I-CAT's ears. I-CAT will enter "scratch" mode, indicated by a red LED circling pattern. I-CAT is now waiting for your input. Touch any of the 6 outer-ring LED sensors to play turntable scratch sounds with your music. Have fun, because the interaction keeps I-CAT happy! If you don't press one of the I-CAT face sensors for a few seconds, I-CAT autorhatically exits "SCRATCH" mode. If music is still playing, I-CAT will go back into feeding (listening) mode.
[edit] iFish
A piscine version of the iDog, the iFish plays music and moves in a swimming-like motion. The iFish also has an internal selection of music. The fish, as with the dog and cat, comes in two colors: white and black. It comes with a 3.5 mm audio cable for audio input. Like the iDog, it is touch-sensitive.
the iFish has 4 moods natral (it just turend on) happy (you just fed iFish music) relaxed (you just pet it on the head) and refresed (you pluged iFish in and fed him for 5 min).
note~ when you restart, turn off, or turn on iFish it starts on its NATRAL mood
[edit] iFishe's Moods
tap iFishe's left and/or right fin 2 times in a row (quickly) and iFish will show you a mood:
- NATURAL - you just turned iFish on.
- HAPPY - When I-FISH reacts to petting from its Refreshed state, or microphone input from its Relaxed state, it becomes Happy. The Face LEDs will be red and will quickly flash from the bottom to the top of the face. The Body LED will be red and will sometimes show flashes of blue and green. During song playback, the Face LEDs turn orange and flash from the top to the bottom of the face. The Body LED will also turn red and the tempo of the music will increase.
- REFRESHED - When I-FISH reacts to microphone input from its Natural state, it becomes Refreshed. The Face LEDs will be orange and will flash from the bottom to the top of the face. The Body LED will be blue and will sometimes show flashes of green or red. I-FISH will start to play original songs, one at a time. During song playback, the Face LEDs turn red and flash from the top to the bottom of the face. The Body LED will also turn red and green.
- RELAXED - Pet I-FISH in its Natural state, and it will become Relaxed. It will play original songs, one at a time. The Face LEDs will be green and will flash from the bottom to the top of the face. The Body LED will be green and blue. During song playback, the Face LEDs will remain green but will flash from the top to the bottom of the face. The Body LED will turn green.
to scroll through the songs tap fin b (the one on the right) to scroll back through the songs tap fin a (the one on the left).
[edit] volume
just like there are 7 seas there are 7 levels of volume on iFish.
- To raise the volume - hold down Fin A and tap Fin B (the fin on the right): the volume will go up one level per press.
- To lower the volume - hold down Fin B (the fin on the right) and tap Fin A: the volume will go down one level per press.
note~ You cannot turn the I-FISH volume off. To silence the I-FISH, you have to turn the I-FISH off completely.
[edit] Feeding I-FISH
I-FISH likes to be fed music and sound. If you feed I-FISH, it will enter its Happy mode.
Hold down Fin B for a second or two, and I-FISH will make a bubbling sound to indicate it’s entered its Feeding mode.
Watch the I-FISH face: it will light up from top to bottom, with red, orange and green lights. (Its body does not light up at this time.)
Once I-FISH enters Feeding mode, you need to feed it within 4 seconds. I-FISH is hungry!
Once I-FISH receives “food” in the form of music or sound, it will light up in various colors and play a short “Thank You” melody, along with a bubbling sound.
If I-FISH cannot receive “food,” it will make a disappointed sound and return to its hangout mode.
note~ If you talk to I-FISH or play a sound while it is in hangout mode, I-FISH will squeak and its Face LED will flash an array of colors. If sound continues for about 4 seconds while the lights are flashing, I-FISH will make an arrangement with that sound and play it back to you. Depending on surrounding conditions, I-FISH may react to background noise.
[edit] iCy
The iCy is a penguin version of the iDog. In addition to playing music, it dances and the LED lights on its stomach flash in time to the music. Unlike its predecessors, it has only two touch sensors for user interaction, its tail, which is designed to annoy it rather than reward it, and beak, which you press to pet it. It has various emotions which change based on user interaction and music played.
The iCy is designed to personify different traits and acts irritated when it has been without music for a while, waving its arms and squawking; "feeding" the iCy music makes it feel better. You can also show it attention by tapping its beak, tapping it twice will prompt it to dance, sing one of its pre-coded songs, and display its current mood.
note~ he starts on his lonely mood
Hasbro also sells clothing for the iCy, called the "Chill" series, including hats, flipper-warmers, feet-warmers, and scarves.
[edit] Needs
To keep I-CY satisfied and healthy, be sure to “feed” (play) it lots of music and give it lots of attention!
| Music | Attention |
|---|---|
| If I-CY is hungry and needs more music from you, it will periodically “squeak” and blink its center blue LED. The LED will blink faster as I-CY gets hungrier. When you see this happen, “feed” I-CY some music! | If I-CY needs more attention, it will periodically “squawk” and its 6 outer-ring LEDs will pulsate orange-yellow-orange-yellow. The sequence will pulsate faster as I-CY gets more desperate for your attention. When you see this happen, show I-CY some attention by pressing its Nose Button a few times! |

This means that you’re “feeding” I-CY lots of music and giving it a lot of attention. You’re pressing its Nose Button so much, I-CY is excited. When you double-click the Nose Button, I-CY will play excited music. note~ this light sequence moves quickly.
- HAPPY
This means that you’re “feeding” I-CY enough music and giving it the right amount of attention. When you double-click its Nose Button, I-CY will play happy music.
- LONELY

- “SICK”
If I-CY shows you a ring of green and yellow LEDs and makes a “sick” sound instead of a music riff, I-CY has become “sick” from too little music or attention! “Feed” I-CY some music and give it some nose-click attention right away!
[edit] iTurtle
The iTurtle is a reptile version of the iDog with multicolored LED lights on its shell. It comes with a plug cable (3.5 mm) with 2 touch sensors on its tail and head. Double-clicking his head makes him show his mood.
It acts "eratated" when it has ben without music for a while, feeding iTurtle makes him feel better.
The iTurtle comes in 1 color: white.
