[edit] History

IIM Indore which came into existence in 1996, was established as the sixth Indian Institute of Management after IIM Calcutta (1961), IIM Ahmedabad (1963), IIM Bangalore (1972), IIM Lucknow (1984) and IIM Kozhikode (1996).[2] The institute was the youngest among IIMs till 2008, when IIM Shillong was instituted.[3]

The temporary campus was located in Rajendranagar in Indore till 2003, when the institute moved to its current campus situated at Rau on the Rau-Pithampur road close to the Pithampur Special Economic Zone.[4]

[edit] Location and campus

On October 3, 1998, the foundation stone of the new IIM Indore campus was laid by Mukesh Ambani. The 193 acres (0.78 km2) campus is located at Prabandh Shikhar, on Rau-Pithampur Road, off Agra-Bombay Highway. A large part of the campus still remains unused.[citation needed] Expansion plans include building more hostels to accommodate the growing number of post graduate and executive students, a state of the art sports complex and residential quarters for doctoral students.

[edit] Hostels

The PGP is a full-time residential programme. The new campus started with 4 hostels each housing 60 students. As the intake has gradually increased, today, there are 14 hostels. Rooms in all the hostels have direct computer connectivity to the main LAN that provides an 8 Mbit/s internet connectivity. For the One Year Full Time MBA – the EPGP, a separate air conditioned hostel has been set up that offers super-luxury accommodation and can house almost 200 students – future proof for the substantial increase in intake planned for the One Year Full Time EPGP. In addition to these, IIM Indore also has a Management Development Centre (MDC) which houses the MDP participants. A hostel dedicated to participants of Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is under construction. Dedicated mess facilities and round the clock canteen facilities are available in between the hostels. The common rooms at the Hostels have a 52" LCD TV with satellite cable, in addition to the facilities for the indoor games. It is also the scene of action for get-togethers, parties and informal discussions.

[edit] Library

IIM Indore Library

The IIMI Library holds knowledge resources predominantly related to management and allied subjects. The entire Library collection including the CD-ROM databases and the online databases are made available through Institute’s network. Users can access the online databases, video library and also find out the real-time availability of library materials from their own computer terminals. The Library offers a range of information services set to the highest professional standards.

The Library resource includes over 15000 books in the area of Management and related subjects, 425 journals (350 Foreign and 75 Indian) specific to the academic and research needs of the academic community and over 1000 selective e-journals available in full-text.[5]

[edit] Sports Complex

Sports Complex

The new sports complex which has a swimming pool, a squash court and an auditorium was inaugurated on October 2011 by Shri L.N. Jhunjhunwala, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIM Indore and has become operational since then. During his inaugural speech, Shri Jhunjhunwala congratulated the IIM community for state-of-the-art sports complex which is home to a world-class swimming pool and other excellent facilities. He further said that this will be an excellent opportunity for the students of IIM Indore to sharpen their athletic skills and bring the glory to the country.[6]

[edit] Academics

Like all IIMs, IIM Indore awards diplomas, not degrees.[7] IIM Indore offers a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) which is equivalent to an MBA, Fellow Programme in Management (FPM), Management Development Programme (MDP), Executive Post-Graduate Programme (EPGP) and Post-Graduate Certificate Program in Management (PGCPM). There are options to specialise in various fields such as Finance, Operations, Marketing, Systems etc. The students are given flexibility to choose the specialisation of their choice. Starting in 2011, IIM Indore also started a five year Integrated Program in Management, for students who have passed out Class XII.[8]

[edit] Admission

The admissions to IIM Indore PGP , the flagship Post Graduate Program take place through the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the IIMs. The NRI candidates are also eligible to apply and should have scored a minimum GMAT score of 650 to be shortlisted for further evaluations. [9]

[edit] Foreign Student Exchange Program

The Student Exchange Programme ensures that the students are exposed to the latest trends in management across the best business schools in the world. Apart from providing a chance for students to interact and really be a part of some of the world's top universities for a term, the programme also enables the rest of the batch here to benefit from the foreign students who travel here in their place. The Student Exchange Programme Committee (see below under Student Activities) handles the logistics of the programme. The institute had its first student exchange of six students with Ecole de Management de Lyon (EM Lyon), a premier business school based in Lyon, France, in 2005. The exchange program has advanced rapidly and the institute currently has exchange programs with two more business schools in France, two in Germany, two in USA one in China, one in Canada and one in New Zealand, with several others on the anvil.
