"I Want You" is a song by American singer–songwriter Janet Jackson from her eighth studio album, Damita Jo (2004).

Released as the second single from Damita Jo, the song was written by Harold Lilly, Miri Ben-Ari, Kanye West, and John Stephens[1] under the working title "Have Your Way with Me", and contains a sample from B.T. Express' 1975 version of the classic "(They Long to Be) Close to You"—retitled "Close to You"—, written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. The song was a critical success—Rolling Stone said "on 'I Want You', with help from West, she evokes the Motown dreams her siblings lived"—, but like previous singles from Damita Jo, its commercial performance was shadowed by the Super Bowl halftime show incident.

"I Want You" received very little radio airplay on mainstream radio, instead receiving more airplay at urban stations. Jackson earned several award nominations including Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 2005 Grammy Awards. It was released under a LidRock CD and was certified platinum by the RIAA in 2004. The song was only released as a single in the U.S., appearing as a double A-side with "All Nite (Don't Stop)" in some international markets such as the United Kingdom, Australia, and Japan. "All Nite (Don't Stop)" c/w "I Want You" peaked at #19 in the UK as a double-sided single.
The single peaked at number fifty-seven on the Billboard Hot 100 and number eighteen on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. However, due to the strain on the singles from Damita Jo, it failed to impact the pop charts.

The video for "I Want You" was directed by Dave Meyers from March 21-24, 2004. It takes place at night and shows Jackson taking a bus and walking through the town to meet her beau Jermaine Dupri at a recreational center. Child actor Bobb'e J. Thompson makes a cameo appearance in the video waving at Janet. After the Super Bowl incident, MTV refused to air Jackson's new videos including "I Want You". The video could only be seen on MTV Hits and MTV Jams, and also aired regularly on BET and VH1 and their digital outlets. It was included on the enhanced version of the CD single and on the 2004 video compilation From janet. to Damita Jo: The Videos.
