Ian Shaw (born 2 June 1962)[1] is a Welsh jazz singer, record producer, and former stand up comedian.
Shaw was born at St. Asaph, Wales, and his career in performance began on the Alternative Cabaret Circuit, alongside such performers as Julian Clary, Rory Bremner and Jo Brand.
In his music career he has recorded and performed several times with Claire Martin, and appeared with her on the BBC Radio 2 show Big Band Special, a show that he has also presented. He also presents a jazz show on BBC South with Charlie Crocker.
Shaw won in the Best Jazz Vocalist category at the BBC Jazz Awards in 2004 and 2007. In 2008 he released his autobiographical album Lifejacket, and spent the best part of a year touring with a full band.
As an actor, Shaw performed in Jerry Springer: The Opera in 2002; Richard Thomas created the part of the warm-up man/devil for Shaw. In 2005, Shaw appeared as Percy in the film Pierrepoint.[2][3]
He currently resides in London, and is a regular performer at local venues, such as Ronnie Scott's, the 606 Club and the Vortex.
