Ian Sutherland is the mayor of the District of Squamish, British Columbia, Canada.

Sutherland has been the mayor of the District of Squamish since November 2002. He won the elections by a large margin in Squamish's first local slate, Squamish New Directions (SND). In the 2005 elections, he again won, but with a slimmer majority, against Terrill Patterson. Sutherland co-founded the SND political bloc in the 2002 election, which was able to elect all four of its members, securing a majority of the seven seat council. In the 2005 election, Sutherland and Ray Peters were the only SND members elected. Peters died of cancer in March 2006,[1] leaving Sutherland as the only SND member.

In 2008, Sutherland ran as a candidate for the federal Liberal Party for the riding, West Vancouver—Sunshine Coast—Sea to Sky Country, that includes Squamish.
