[edit] History

Ichinomiya was named after the Ichinomiya of Mikawa Province, the Toga Shrine. Modern Ichinomiya village was created through the merger of two small hamlets on July 1, 1906. It annexed Yamato village from neighboring Yana District in 1954. Ichinomiya was elevated to town status on April 1, 1961. On February 1, 2006, Ichinomiya merged into the city of Toyokawa and ceased to exist as an independent administrative division.
