Icon Collective is a digital music production and recording school designed for artists by veteran producers and musicians in the Los Angeles area. Icon Collective offers two certificate programs in Digital Music Production. A nine-month course taught at their Los Angeles campus called ICON L.A. and a six-month online course called ICON Online. The school teaches Logic Pro, Reason 4, Ableton, Recycle 2.1, Native Instruments, and other software plug-ins. What's unique about Icon's program is that it puts a lot of emphasis on the individual's interests and distinctive musical style. Each student is given studio mentor time, in which veteran producers will work directly with the students' music. Other classes include Logic Pro, Recording Techniques, Synthesis, Keyboard 4 Producers, Music Business, and Creativity.

[edit] Founders

[edit] Christopher Wight

Christopher Wight is a veteran musician, performer, songwriter and producer. Together with David Alexander, Christopher founded the program at Icon Collective in 2005 as an avenue for artists and producers to obtain all of the skills and knowledge necessary to carve out a successful career in the music business.

In addition to teaching, Christopher has also toured the globe as a major label musician, collaborated on projects with some of the most prestigious people in the music business, and he currently serves as one half of the electronic hybrid, Icon Underground, with David Alexander.[2]

[edit] David Alexander

David Alexander studied music production with the legendary pioneer of electronic music, Thomas Dolby, back in the early '90s. Thomas was a mentor to David and introduced him to the world of electronic music technology. Besides a five year touring stint as a keyboardist with groups such as The Gap Band, David also spent a few years refining his production skills by scoring music for several top video games such as Quake II, Quake III Arena, 007 James Bond Tomorrow Never Dies and Terminator 3. These scores received major acclaims and were released independently of the games as soundtracks.

Afterwards his music appeared in major movies such as Rush Hour, Fridays, and K-19: The Widowmaker. Recently[when?] he has been working more with DJs and artists in the dance and electronica scene. David has recently[when?] produced remixes for Prince and is currently producing other records as well. His remixes included tracks by artists such as U2, Nirvana, Annie Lennox, Justin Timberlake, Gwen Stefani and more.[3]
