Imphal West district is one of the nine districts of Manipur state in northeastern India. As of 2011 it is the most populous district in the state.[1]

Imphal city is the administrative headquarters of the district. The district occupies an area of 558 km2.

The district ranks first on the basis of "District Infrastructure Index " calculated under the patronage of Ministry of North East Region(DoNER). .[2]

According to the 2011 census Imphal West district has a population of 514,683 ,[3] roughly equal to the nation of Cape Verde.[4] This gives it a ranking of 545th in India (out of a total of 640).[3] The district has a population density of 992 inhabitants per square kilometre (2,570 /sq mi) .[3] Its population growth rate over the decade 2001-2011 was 15.82 %.[3] Imphal West has a sex ratio of 1029 females for every 1000 males,[3] and a literacy rate of 86.7 %.[3]
