Ingram Book Group is a United States-based book wholesaler and distributor based in La Vergne, Tennessee. A subsidiary of Ingram Industries[1], Ingram Book Group was founded in 1964 and is a wholesaler specializing in the distribution of books and audio books.[2] They have the industry's largest inventory[3] with access to almost one million titles.[4] The markets they serve include booksellers, librarians and specialty retailers.

The company also provides book selling services to publishers via their extensive distribution channels. Utilizing sales representatives they promote publishers books to the markets they serve through their vendor of record and street smart programs. The company also provides services to librarians and booksellers in the selection of books for stocking bricks and mortar inventory.

Ingram Book Group is used heavily throughout the USA as a major distributor for independent book stores. Ingram Book Group has warehouses in Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Indiana. The company reported sales of approximately 289 million in 2007 and employs over 2000 people.[5] This is about a 70% drop from sales of just over $1.1 billion in 2000.

Ingram Book Group works with Ingram Digital, another division of Ingram Industries, to provide digitized versions of books and textbooks.

During 1999 and 2000, Ingram Industries negotiated a sale to Barnes & Noble which was ultimately withdrawn after pressure from independent bookstores and the American Booksellers Association.

The company's daily activities are handled by David (Skip) Prichard, President and CEO since January 2008, and Chairman John R. Ingram. John R. Ingram is also Vice Chairman of Ingram Industries.

In March 2008, Publishers Weekly reported on John Ingram's questions related to the Amazon POD Print on demand proposal, which would require POD companies to use Amazon's Book Surge for POD products under a tiered payment system. [6]
