The International Association of Ultrarunners regulates and sanctions race events longer than the marathon distance of 42.2 km.
Many of these events are referred to as ultramarathons, and some competitions exist with up to several days of ultrarunning.
IAU events include World Championships for 50K and 100K road races, for 24-hour run and for ultramarathon trail running (24h World Challenge and World Trail Challenge).
