IGLYO stands for the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Youth and Student Organisation. It was created in 1984 as a reaction to the need for better cooperation among regional, local and national LGBTQ youth and student organisations. As a peer-led membership-based network organization, IGLYO is a meeting point for youth in the European Region. IGLYO is registered in Brussels, Belgium.
[edit] Activities
IGLYO organizes annual conferences and study sessions facilitating the capacity building of young activists on different themes. Such events are organized to contribute to promoting values of acceptance and non-discrimination, and for an increasing participation of young LGBTQ people in democratic decision-making processes.
On a political level IGLYO is active in promoting LGBTQ young people's issues in the European Parliament, the European Commission, and the Council of Europe. IGLYO is active member of the European Youth Forum, ILGA, ILGA-Europe and the euromedplatform. It works together with several other youth organisations, such as national youth councils, European student organisations and European political youth organisations.
IGLYO has about 50 Member Organisations. A full list can be found on its website.
