Inveraray Shinty Club

Inveraray Shinty Club (Camanachd Inbhir Aora) is a shinty club from Inveraray, Argyll, Scotland. It plays in the Marine Harvest Premier Division. There is also a reserve team who plays in the South Division One as well as a Ladies team.
[edit] History
The club was formed after a public meeting in 1877. The club's first fixture was a 4-1 defeat by Vale of Leven in Govan.
The club played from its formation until 1935 when the club was banned from competition for 8 years. After the Second World War the club joined with Furnace Shinty Club to become Loch Fyne-side. In 1957, Inveraray was reformed but fell into abeyance in 1979. It was then restarted in 1982 and has continued to this day.
Despite this history of abeyance, Inveraray have been highly successful, winning the Camanachd Cup Final for the fourth time in 2004. Their most recent success was winning the Glasgow Celtic Cup in 2008 and they lost 3-1 to Fort William in the centenary Camanachd Cup Final in 2007.
Their ground was severely damaged in summer 2007 by the Connect Festival held on their pitch of Winterton Park. The Club plays here with the patronage of the Duke of Argyll.
The second team is one of two reserve teams allowed to compete in an area league one, the other is Lochside Rovers.
The team recently came from behind in the MacAulay Cup Final, against fancied Kingussie, 4-3 to win their third title. On surviving relegation in 2009, despite a successful season in the cups, where they won the Celtic Society and the MacAulay Cup, Davie MacPherson retired from his position as manager to be replaces by John Smylie.[1]
