Ion Life is a digital broadcast television network that is owned by Ion Media Networks and is carried as a digital subchannel on Ion Television's owned-and-operated stations and affiliates (primarily being carried on the third subchannel of these stations). The network primarily features lifestyle programming (with shows pertaining to health and wellness, cooking, home decor and travel, among other subjects), though it also theatrically released feature films during the evening hours on weeknights.

Background [edit]

Originally going to be named "iHealth" prior to its parent network's rebranding as Ion Television (the original working title for Ion Life was derived from Ion's former name of "i: Independent Television"),[1] Ion Life first launched on February 19, 2007.[2]

Ion Life programming is also carried on the Ion Plus feeds available on DirecTV, some cable systems operated by Comcast and Time Warner Cable and certain Ion-affiliated stations, in place of the infomercial programming that airs on the main Ion Television network. In 2008, Ion Media Networks and Comcast reached an agreement to not only continue to carry Ion, but also to launch two new digital networks qubo and ION Life.[3][4]

Even though Ion Life's parent network Ion Television had rebranded itself on September 8, 2008, ION Life retained its present logo (which is a green version of the 2007-2008 ION Television logo) and graphics package. Starting in February 2010, movies were added to Ion Life's schedule, usually airing from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Monday through Friday evenings (sometimes starting earlier or ending later depending on the length of the films). By 2012, the number of films featured on the network had decreased, and more lifestyle-oriented programming has been broadcast during prime time hours.
