Ironworkers are skilled tradesmen who work in various facets of the construction and engineering fields. While historically using wrought iron as their main material, today's Ironworkers utilize many different types of ferrous and non ferrous metals along with polymers, glass, concrete and even fiber glass/epoxy composites in fabrication and erection of numerous projects throughout North America. Although, the most common building materials used in the Ironworking trade that you will see on a daily basis are steel and concrete. Steel may be in the form of what are known as structural shapes such as "H" or "I" beam, "T" iron and "C" channel, etc.

Steel may also be used in the form of solid round stock that is commonly referred to as "rebar". This material is specifically designed to be used in reinforced concrete construction.

"Rodbusters" are those who work with rebar and although not always the case, are usually those whom work hardest in the trade
