[edit] History
The university was founded in 1974 and admitted its first students in 1977. It was founded as Aryamehr University of Technology Isfahan branch and was renamed after the Islamic Revolution of Iran. Plans were to make the institution the largest university in the middle east that weren't completed because of political changes in the country. Isfahan University of Technology is a state university under the supervision of The Ministry of Culture and Higher Education. The original idea of a university of technology in the industrial zone of the country was conceived some thirty five years ago. However, IUT began its academic activities in 1977 with around 800 students in five departments; the enrollment has now grown to 10000 in twelve independent departments. The graduates from IUT have found great and varied opportunities and have played their key roles in a rapidly changing economic and industrial environment.[3]
The university was designed and planned directly based on models of MIT and University of Illinois at Chicago.[4]
[edit] Academics
Today the university offers degrees in B.S., M.Sc., and PhD levels in several branches of Science and Engineering.
The university has maintained its life-long reputation for the quality of education and many of its graduates are working in academic as well as industrial environments around the world.
It is basically believed that the university presents one of the best engineering programs nationwide, especially in the fields of Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and Materials Engineering. Many of the country's brightest talents choose IUT among their first choices in National University Entrance Exams.
The university runs two famous research centers: Information & Communication Technology Institute and Subsea Research & Development center where the first national radar project and design, implementation of first Iranian submarine were carried out.
Isfahan University of Technology is well known as a tough university with low GPA.
[edit] Research & Facilities
