The University has a student body of approximately 4500 including undergraduate and graduate students. OTF offers some 42 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The university occupies about 1,200,000 square meters[1] and is one of the largest universities in Iran.[citation needed]
The university was founded in 2005[citation needed] and despite its very young age has gained an excellent reputation in science and research compared to the other branches of the Islamic Azad University and mid-class universities in Iran.[2]
OTF students sometimes call the university "Olum Tafrihat" which means science and entertainment and has a close pronunciation to its real name in Persian "Olum Tahgigat" which means science and research.
The first graduation ceremony of the OTF students was held in May, 2009.[3]
