Jambo OpenOffice (Hello OpenOffice[4]) was an open source office suite based on OpenOffice.org written for Swahili speakers and runs on Linux and Microsoft Windows.[5]
It was developed by Kilinux and the first major project release took place in December 2004 as JambOO.o[5] based on OpenOffice.org 1.1.3.[1]
The project seems to have been inactive since 2005 [2] and the plans to update and sync Jambo OpenOffice to OpenOffice.org 2[6] were never finished.

Distribution [edit]
Since the countries have major problem with their Internet and electricity infrastructure,[7] neither the finished Jambo OpenOffice nor the original source code could be sent over the Internet, so the team tried to distribute the office suite by delivering CD-ROMs to schools and universities.[8]
History [edit]
After Kilinux released a Swahili IT Glossary, the team was able to localize the 18,000 strings of OpenOffice.org [1][9] and the first version of Jambo OpenOffice was unofficially released on the 4 December 2004 for Linux only.[1][5][8]
The later officially released version was available for both Linux and Windows on 28 February 2005[10] after a Spanish company donated the cost for a Microsoft Visual Studio for doing essential optimizing of the source code.[11]
