James E. Alcock (born 1942) is a Professor of Psychology at York University (Canada).[1] He has been a professor at York since 1973. Alcock received his BSc (Honours Physics) from McGill University and a PhD in Social Psychology from McMaster University. Alcock is also an amateur magician and is a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians.

Alcock is a noted critic of parapsychology.[2] Alcock is a Fellow and Member of the Executive Council for the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry. A member of the Editorial Board of The Skeptical Inquirer,[3] he is a frequent contributor to the magazine.
On October 9, 2010 CSI announced Alcock (and others) as a part of their policy-making Executive Council, he will also serve on Skeptical Inquirer's magazine board.[4]

In 1999, a panel of skeptics named him among the two dozen most outstanding skeptics of the 20th Century.[5]
In October 2004 he spoke at the World Skeptics Congress in Italy.[3]
