Born in Toronto during her father's time at Second City Television (SCTV), Jennifer moved to the United States with her parents in 1986 and grew up in Los Angeles. Her father died of a heart attack when she was 14.
She attended and graduated from the Loyola Marymount University in 2002. In the fall of 2002, she directed a stage version of Little Shop of Horrors for the Del Rey Players theatre group at Loyola Marymount. Her father was one of the stars of the movie version of the same play. Candy even put an audio clip of her father's radio DJ character into the play. Candy has one brother, Christopher, born 1984.
