Jerusalem Malha Railway Station is the main Israel Railways station in Jerusalem. The station is located in the southern neighborhood of Manahat, also known as Malha, near the Jerusalem Shopping Mall and Teddy Stadium, the home field of the Beitar Jerusalem football club. Outside the station is an Egged bus terminal, as well as a bus depot where buses are stored and refuelled. The entrance to the station is on ground level and there are stairways and escalators going up into the station. There is a ticket counter and an automatic ticket machine as well as bathrooms. Escalators provide access down to the platform level, where passengers can board the trains. Jerusalem Malha is one of the most impressively constructed stations of Israel Railways, with a vast building containing four platforms. Nevertheless, the service frequency is one train per hour in each direction.
When buying inter-city tickets to Jerusalem Malha, passengers can get a reduced-price transfer to a city bus, to continue their trip to other parts of the city.
Jerusalem Malha is the terminus of the line. The other Jerusalem station is the Biblical Zoo, with limited stops. Jerusalem Malha was opened on April 9, 2005, when the historic Tel Aviv–Jerusalem line was restored after being out of service for six years. The line was in bad shape and needed serious upgrades, including the laying of new tracks. This train line was suspended as rocks were often thrown at passing trains by Arab residents along the train's route. Jerusalem Malha replaced the historic Khan Station in central Jerusalem which was not restored due to the objections of area residents over train noise. In 2012, there will be a new high speed train line from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem which will terminate at a new underground station under construction beneath the Jerusalem Central Bus Station. There are plans to connect the line from the Jerusalem Central Bus Station to Jerusalem Malha.
Trains from Jerusalem travel westbound to Beit Shemesh, where passengers can catch a train to Ramla, Lod, Tel Aviv, Bnei Brak, Petah Tikva, Rosh Ha'ayin, and Kfar Sava with connecting service to other destinations from Lod and Tel Aviv.
Since February 5, 2006, intercity bus routes to Gush Etzion and the Hebron area stop at the new bus depot at Jerusalem Malha Train Station on their way from the Jerusalem Central Bus Station to their destination via Begin Boulevard.
