Jerzy Bereś

Jerzy Bereś (September 14, 1930 in New Sącz - December 25, 2012 in Kraków) was a Polish sculptor, author and performance artist.[1]

Creativity[edit]

In his work he used artistic manifestations. His works and projects are often political and ethical statements, preached the demand of "creative act" on the subject. Jerzy Bereś developed his own unique style, but his practices were related: happening and these performance, although I never admit to any relationship with these trends in the arts demonstrations, calling their actions (actions, " Masses "). Beres Art is an art symbol, metaphor and metaphysical associations. Made by the actions of a dispute with known artists in the history of art of the twentieth century such as the Witkacy, Kantor and Duchamp.

Artistic activity[edit]

In 1956 completed the sculpture in the Academy of Fine Arts in Xawery Dunikowski.

The first solo exhibition was in 1958 in Kraków House of Artists, presented the sculpture there: 'Lullaby', 'The Sun', 'Mother', 'Eve', 'anxiety', 'Idyll' made of plaster and reinforced concrete. Experience this exhibition influenced Bereś decision to stop work so far and along with it a tradition learned from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. He made just before 1960 the first sculpture of wood:'Rzepicha' and 'Bart'. However, these were very accurate realizations that led the artist to decide on jeszce more simplified their work. Since then, his sculptures in wood are becoming increasingly easier and stay as close to the nature of the material used. In 1960 he created his first sculpture in the series hallucinations and 1967 in the series The Oracle, made of natural materials: field stones, hemp rope, scraps of canvas bag, leather straps (the characteristic of materials for his work).

In 1968 Beres presented in Foksal Gallery in Warsaw first artistic manifestation of prophecy 'I'. It opens up a whole series of speeches that are a commentary on politics, religion, art and philosophy, in which the artist often uses her own body and the object. Then share realized by the artist called "Masses" in which he moved the most important Polish problems, such as: Mass Romantic, political Mass,' Mass in Polish.
