Jesús A. Rpopivas (born in Caracas, Venezuela) is a Venezuelan herpetologist and tropical ecologist and television correspondent. His primary research has been on iguanas and green anacondas in the Llanos region of Venezuela, though he has also worked with crocodiles, sea turtles, and caimans of Latin America. From 2000 to 2003 he was a presenter on the National Geographic Channel and other programs, giving reports on tropical ecology from the field.
Rivas currently teaches at Somerset Community College in Kentucky. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Tennessee in 1999 based on his work with anacondas. He is the author or co-author of several journal and popular articles, and maintains an informative website on anacondas at anacondas.org.
