"Jesus" (also titled as "Jesus Christ" in liner notes, the US release and US iTunes download) is a song by alternative rock band Brand New. It is the second single (first "official" single according to the band) from their 2006 album The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me. The single was released on 7" vinyl and CD in the United Kingdom on April 30, 2007. In the US, the single reached number 30 on the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart.

As of August 2013, the single holds the 22nd spot on Rate Your Music's list of the top singles from the 2000s[1]

A music video was directed by Moh Azima, but was never released. It surfaced on the internet in late 2009, but was quickly taken down at the request of Interscope and Brand New, although it can still be found on various websites [2][3]

Notes[edit]

  • The artwork for the single is similar to those of The Jesus Lizard, in particular their album Goat
  • The band performed the song when they appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien on January 19, 2007. The song was played without the 40-second intro from the album version, but featured the instrumental outro, which is cut from the radio edit. A month later, on February 26, they performed the song again on the Late Show with David Letterman.
  • The song was featured in an episode of the television show, Friday Night Lights.
