James J. Cathey is a vice president of business development for Qualcomm MEMS Technologies, Inc. (QMT), a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm. Jim Cathey has served as the Business Development lead for QMT since September 2006.

Cathey has helped lead the commercialization efforts for QMT's mirasol displays since 2006. Qualcomm's mirasol displays were first brought to market in December 2007 as a bichrome (two-color) product platform and has achieved a fair amount of commercial success[1]).
A 18-year technology display industry veteran, Cathey has extensive experience in the creation, implementation and management of domestic and international market strategies for advanced display technologies, semiconductors and software. His experience spans multiple display technologies including field emission display (FED), liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS), organic light-emitting diode (OLED) and liquid crystal display (LCD).
Prior to QMT, Cathey served as a senior executive at Micron Technology, MicroDisplay and PixTech and has provided strategic business consulting services to companies such as DuPont Display, DuPont PhotoMask and Applied Materials.
QMT’s mirasol display technology under Cathey's guidance has garnered multiple awards, including PC Magazine's Technical Excellence Award for 2008, CES Innovation Awards 2009 and EDN Innovation Awards 20098 and Andrew Seybold Choice Awards, 2009.
Notable career highlights include working closely with the US Congress to appropriate funding for further development of the display industry, and serving as a consultant for the government of China as a negotiator in agriculture.
