Jim Davies is the former live/studio guitarist for The Prodigy. He is also a former member of the pioneering cult Electronic/Metal crossover band Pitchshifter.
Davies first played live with 'Prodigy' in 1995, including the now legendary performance at that years Glastonbury festival. After a year of touring worldwide with the band Davies contributed his unique guitar sounds to the bands breakthrough and multi million selling album "The fat of the land"
Most notably Davies supplied the guitar parts for the massive number one hits 'Firestarter' and 'Breathe' (in 2010 'Total guitar' magazine voted Davies's 'Firestarter' riff as one of the top 10 guitar riffs of all time)
Jim joined Pitchshifter in 1998. A fan of the band, Jim had seen the band perform live several times and eventually approached them to offer his services. Jim played on 5 tracks on the bands critically acclaimed and cult album "www.Pitchshifter.com" after which he joined the band and toured world wide in support of the album. Gigs included the main stage at 'The Big Dayout' festival at Milton Keynes bowl and several high profile tours of America supporting 'Gravity Kills' and "The Deftones'.
Jim co-wrote the bands next 2 albums 'Deviant' (MCA) and 'PSI' (Sanctuary) The 'Deviant' album charted in the UK top 40 and tours in support of the album included a 3 month stint on America's 'Ozzfest' along side Ozzy Osbourne,Incubus and Pantera. The tour culminated with 2 sold out night at the London Astoria.
The 'PSI' album was Davies's last recording with the band, written entirely by himself and front man J.S Clayden. After being dropped by Sanctuary records Pitchshifter recorded a live album (Bootlegged and Distorted, remixed and uploaded) at the Astoria which immortalized Jim's last performance with the band.
Pitchshifter went on an 'indefinite hiatus' in 2002- although the band have reformed, Jim has never returned to play live with the band.
Jim returned to play live with 'Prodigy' in 2002 including the bands headline gig at the UK reading festival. He contributed to the 'Always outnumbered always outgunned' album on the track 'You'll be under my wheels'
When Prodigy frontman Keith Flint recorded a solo album under the name 'Flint' in 2002 Jim was drafted in to provide the guitars for the album. Although 'Flint' played a number of gigs and festivals the album, due to be released on Polydor records, was never released. It was at this time that Pitchshifter reformed for a farewell tour, however, Davies opted out siting his work with 'Flint' meant that he was unable to commit to returning to the band. The 'Flint' track "Razor' was re worked by Liam Howlett and featured on 'Prodigy's greatest hits album as an exclusive track.
in 2007 Davies finally recorded his own album with his own band entitled 'Victory Pill'. The self titled album was released on the bands own label 'Otherside recordings' and received wide spread critical acclaim. The band toured with Static X and Skindred with band members Pete Crossman, Kieron Pepper and Alex Baker.
In 2009 Davies recorded an instrumental guitar album entitled 'Electronic guitar' through Mascot records. The album was again critically acclaimed and featured Davies using nothing but his guitar to create all the sounds on the album(drums aside)
2012 saw the release of Victory Pill's second album 'The Digital divide' again on the bands own label 'Otherside recordings'
Aside from his own albums Davies has also guested and recorded with a host of Electronic acts and DJ's including DJ Hyper and General Midi
2012-onwards
In recent guitar magazine interviews Davies has revealed his reservations about releasing anymore albums as an artist and plans to concentrate on composing production music for T.V and film.
