James N. Gianopulos, aka Jim Gianopulos, is a co-chairman-CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment with Tom Rothman.[1] They were selected in 2007 by Premiere as the two most powerful people in Hollywood.[2]

He is a second-generation Greek-American, born in New York City. As a young man he worked as a sailor on a tanker for a summer because he had a great desire to travel the world. After finishing law school he moved out to Los Angeles, landing jobs with such companies as Paramount and Lorimar. He was voted one of 2005’s Showmen of the Year by Variety (along with Tom Rothman, the other co-president of Fox) for the quality of the studio’s productions and for the economic results he brought Fox. Gianopoulos has been a member of the Army Archerd Fund's Board and longtime supporter.

Gianopoulos along with Tom Rothman have been named the Tag Team of the year by the studio. They led their studio to a record-breaking $1.3 billion year at the box office, a 14 percent increase over 2004 grosses. Gianopoulos came up through Fox's international distribution ranks. Rothman produced Jim Jarmusch's early films and launched Fox Searchlight before co-helming News Corp.'s movie division.[citation needed]
As at 2006, the Gianopoulos and Rothman team had greenlit 20 movies that produced over $100 million domestically ($115 million in current dollars)[1][3][4] and 26 movies that fetched $100 million internationally ($115 million in current dollars).[1][3][4]
Gianopulos sits on both the Corporate and Foundation Boards of Directors of the Motion Picture and Television Fund. He has named by many magazines along with Thomas Rothman as mogul of motion picture industry. His biggest success after Titanic was Avatar, which proved a major success for the studio and for himself.[citation needed]
