Jinnah Hospital in Lahore is the second largest teaching hospital in the Pakistani province of Punjab spread over 105 acres (0.42 km2) and with 1250 beds. It has a residential area for doctors, students and for the first time in Pakistan a rest area by the name of "Sarai" where the relatives of the patients can find temporary lodgings. The Affiliated medical college is Allama Iqbal Medical College.

Jinnah Hospital is recognized by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) for house job and specialist training and by College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP) for Post Graduate Studies (FCPS). Most of the training programs are also recognized by the U.K. Royal College of Physicians, Royal College of Surgeons and Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Jinnah Hospital is where all major or minor accident cases from the Motorway are brought for immediate management being the best Level I trauma center of Lahore. A majority of patients at Jinnah come from the surrounding poor suburbs like Bhai Pheru, Pattoki, Raiwind and all the near villages. Jinnah also caters to the southern localities of Lahore as well as southern Punjab.

Jinnah is a teaching hospital, with 1416 students studying to be doctors at Allama Iqbal Medical College and learning practical procedures at Jinnah, over 7,000 doctors have graduated from here over the last ten years.

It has a team of 65 consultant physicians and surgeons. It has all the usual departments like Ob/Gyn, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Laboratory and General Surgery, as well as those not usually found in public hospitals, such as Oncology, Radiology, Plastic Surgery, Dermatology, Urology, and Neurosurgery.

Out-patient Department

The hospital has complete pathology services, and provides scans including x-rays, ultrasound, mammography and CT Scans. There are certain services, machines and equipment which, although easily available in the private sector are too expensive to purchase or maintain in the public sector. Jinnah Hospital is alone among the other public hospitals in a Radiotherapy Machine (Cobalt 60).

An average of 550,000 patients visit the Out-Patient and Emergency Department every year, where 70% of the treatment is given completely free. Every year more than 1,500,000 tests are carried out in Pathology Laboratory. During year 2004, the Accident and Emergency department has treated 134,477 patients, which were not charged even a single penny for admission, tests or in case an operation is carried out.

The hospital is named after the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. It began operations in 1994, with very limited facilities, and was formally inaugurated on 2 February 1996 , although with only basic specialties at first. [1]. In 2005 it added a new 100 bed Accident & Emergency Department.

The number of patients increased from 500,000 in 2003 to 700,000 in 2007. [1]

Medical related magazine Med-Mag founded by Dr.Asad Ali & Prof.Dr.Arif Siddiui under patron-ship of Prof.Dr.Javed Akram starting from Jinnah Hospital Lahore in March 2012.The magazine will comprise Research section, Cases section, Articles section, Future & advancements in the field of medicine, the schedules of symposiums, workshops & a newsletter. The Medical magazine intend to provide platform for the house officers , postgraduate trainee’s , and other medical related personnel to include their minor or major researches , case compilations , their articles of interests & any message from faculty members which they want to share with other doctors through this magazine.[2].
