[edit] Biography
[edit] Early
He was born on May 21, 1982, at the Simpson Hospital in Edinburgh to Maureen Mooney and John Mooney - their second son (the first being James Mooney, born 9 January 1980).
[edit] Career
Jock is most well known for his sculptures, installation and drawn works. He graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2004, with a BA (hons) in Sculpture. Since 2004 he has exhibited extensively in a number of countries and is represented by the Newcastle based gallery Vane. His works are in private collections in the UK, Ireland, North and South America, Sweden and Finland.
In 2008 he received individual Arts Council funding to produce his self titled book of Sculptures and Drawings. The 80 page, full colour hardback also features the essay " A Feast of Folly" by artist and writer John Beagles (of Beagles & Ramsay).
Some of Mooney's works have featured on record sleeves (dan le sac vs Scroobius Pip, Isosceles), and he also co-directs music videos with the director Alasdair Brotherston; "Throw Me to the Rats" (2008)[2] and "Bottom of the River" (2009), both for Canadian band Tom Fun Orchestra, and "I go I go I go" (2009) for the Liverpool based band Wave Machines. The latter being their first live action video, meeting critical acclaim and endorsement by Kanye West.[3]
Jock and Alasdair recently signed to the London based production company Trunk[4] for music video and commercial representation.
"Bubblegum", a video directed by the pair, for Liverpool based band Clinic was released in November 2010, the video has gone onto achieve similar festival success and popularity - included in Pictoplasma screenings in Berlin (2010) and New York (2011).
Currently in post production is the highly anticipated Graham Chapman story "A Liar's Autobiography". Working closely with the team at Trunk animation, a seven minute section has been produced for the feature film, which also happens to be in 3D. The feature length film will be comprise of several segments by leading animation companies in the UK and Superfad from the US.
PRINTS
In 2009 a set of 6 lithographic prints (in editions of 15 each) were produced in collaboration with Newcastle based Hole editions. These proved very popular, in particular the work 'Magazine Cover' depicting a portly smoking woman in profile underneath a crudely written 'Vogue' text.
TWENTYEN
Between 2005 - 2010 several songs written by Jock were recorded in collaboration with his brother James Mooney. In 2008 a self released EP of songs was sold through art galleries in the UK. Further rough recordings can be heard on the Twentymen myspace: http://www.myspace.com/twentymenmusic
