Joel Thomas Barnes (born December 11, 1978 in Omaha, Nebraska) is the Chief Meteorologist for KCWY-DT in Casper, Wyoming). He has worked at KCWY from December 15, 2003 and is currently still working for News 13.
Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Joel Barnes moved to Colorado when he was 12. He came to Casper from Colorado in December 2003. Joel started as the Morning/Noon Meteorologist at News 13 and was promoted to Chief Meteorologist in September 2004. He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 2003 with his bachelor's degree in Meteorology and a minor in Speech Communications. Joel was an All State Football player at Douglas County High School (Castle Rock, Colorado) and excelled in athletics and mathematics. In college, he interned at KMGH-TV in Denver, and was an avid storm chaser throughout college, as well as, the treasurer of the American Meteorology Society at UNC. He has been awarded several Wyoming Association of Broadcasters Awards in the ten years he has worked at News 13.
