John Barry Ryan, Sr. (September 7, 1874 – February 9, 1942) was an American author and financier.

He was born to Thomas Fortune Ryan and Ida Mary Barry and married Nina Murphy in 1896. The couple had ten children, one of them the late John Barry Ryan II who married Margaret (Nin) Dorothy Wolff Kahn, daughter of the financier Otto Hermann Kahn.
