John Edward Jones (December 5, 1840 – April 10, 1896) was an American politician. He was the eighth Governor of Nevada. He was a member of the Silver Party.

Jones was born in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, however his family moved to Iowa in 1856. Jones came west while working on the Union Pacific Railroad, settling in Eureka, Nevada in 1869.
Jones worked mining and agriculture until 1883, when he became Surveyor-General of Nevada, serving two terms. In 1895 Jones was elected as Governor. However, he died in office a year later on April 10, 1896, at the age of 55.
